True COGS is the inventory costing layer for Shopify. Shopify’s Cost per item stays fixed when stock arrives, so margins drift from what you paid. True COGS records each unit cost when you receive a purchase order or upload a supplier invoice (PDF or photo), with its share of freight and duty, and writes your moving average or FIFO cost to Cost per item. Opening costs from Stocky, another system or a CSV come in without a receipt, services stay out, and each month and year closes on COGS.
